Jazzmobile, by
its very nature, is an outreach and audience development program. Firstly,
Jazzmobile goes to non-standard venues-the peoples neighborhoods; streets,
parks, schools, and playgrounds, which comprise 90% of its efforts. While
Jazzmobile is centrally located in Harlem, USA, it has grown and
progressed through programming city wide, state wide, area and region
wide, and has presented famous jazz artists in jazz programs in every
major market from Boston, Massachusetts to New Orleans,
Louisiana.
Jazzmobile
audiences continue to grow and expand world wide each year.
|
In
general terms, Jazzmobile's performances and services recipients are 60%
African American/Hispanic 30% white and 10%
others.
Jazzmobile's
services include NYC public school students (6-20 years old) and staff
located primarily in predominantly African American and Hispanic enclaves,
where low to middle income families prevail. Jazzmobile's Summer Mobile
Concerts audiences range in age form 8-80 years old, including many poor
and middle class whites. Jazz and Jazzmobile attracts diverse and
integrated audiences. Foreign tour organizers now include Harlem Jazz
clubs as part of their tour packages, evidence of Jazz's widening
appeal.
Jazzmobile
presents, as part of its outdoor concert series, 5 to 10 Afro-Latin/Jazz
bands on the Jazzmobile's mobile band stage, annually. Jazzmobile is not a
membership organization. |
