TERM:
The Jazzmobile Vocal Competition begins with audition on Monday, May 14, 2008 and ends with the
final
competition judging on June 30, 2008.
SPONSOR:
Jazzmobile Inc. and Anheuser-Busch Inc. are the sponsors (“Sponsors”) of this Competition.
HOW TO ENTER:
Audition will be held on Monday May 14, 2008, at the Harlem School of the Arts, Theater,
647 St. Nicholas
Avenue, New York, NY from 2:00pm-8:00pm. Competitions will be held at various nightclubs
in the New York
area during the month of June 2008.
AUDITION CRITERIA:
• Vocalists should prepare to sing 16 measures of two song selections including (1) ballad and (1) uptempo
song. Jazzmobile will provide piano accompaniment; however, singers are welcome to bring their own
pianist. Sheet music is not mandatory, but it is advisable. Auditions will be heard on a first come, first served
basis. If necessary, a second day of auditions will take place on May 15th. A headshot and biography must be
submitted on audition day. (only photos submitted with self addressed and stamped envelops will be returned.)
• All contestants must be 21 years or older and have no current or former recording contract (as a lead
singer) within the last 5 years.
• Entrants will be judged on the following criteria: (a) Originality (b) Phrasing (c) Jazz Style (d) Intonation (e) Improvisation (f) Stage Presence
ELIGIBILITY:
Entrants must be residents of one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, who are
21 years of age
or older by May 14, 2008. Entrants may not be employees of sponsors or of sponsor’s partners
or subsidiaries,
affiliated companies, partners, advertising or promotion agencies or prize donors, nor may they
be members
of the immediate families of any of them, or persons living in their households. Entrants who have
a signed
recording contract as a lead singer with a record label within the last 5 years are ineligible to participate
in the competition.
JUDGING CRITERIA:
A panel of industry professional judges will select participants from the auditions to
enter the competition to be
held throughout June 2008. The twelve (12) semi-finalists selected will compete for
1st & 2nd prizes. Entrants
will be judged on the following criteria: (a) Originality (b) Phrasing (c) Stage Presence
(d) Jazz Style (e) Intonation (f) Improvisation
SELECTION OF WINNERS:
Auditions; Auditions will begin Monday, May 14, 2008, 2pm and competition entrants
will be notified thereafter.
Competition Rounds: Prior to each competition entrants will be notified of dates and
locations for competitions,
which will be held at selected locations in Manhattan beginning June 1, 2008.
Entrants will be expected to perform
before live audiences and be judged on the criteria listed above.
Winners: Grand prize winners will be announced
the evening of final event in June 2008 and also on Jazzmobile
Inc., website at www.jazzmobile.org.
PRIZE:
The 1st place winner will win a check in the amount of One Thousand ($1,000.00) Dollars and a
chance to perform
at a New York City nightclub.
The 2nd place winner will win a check for Five Hundred ($500.00) Dollars.
Winners
are solely responsible for all applicable taxes. An IRS form 1099 will be issued in the winner’s name.
Prizes are not
transferable or assignable. No substitutions or cash redemptions of prizes will be allowed, except
at the sole
discretion of Sponsor.
GENERAL:
(a) By entering this Competition, entrants agree to be bound by these official rules and the decisions of the
judges, which are final. The decisions of Sponsor will be final in determining any disputes or disagreements
concerning this Competition.
(b) In the event the Competition is compromised by virus, bugs, non-authorized human intervention or
other causes beyond the control of Sponsors which corrupts or impairs the administration, security, fairness or
proper play of the Competition, Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to suspend, truncate or terminate
the Competition.
(c) Entry constitutes permission for Sponsor to use (i) the name, likeness, photograph, voice, performance
and biographical data of the entrant, if applicable (ii) the entry, including without limitation the performance,
musical composition, lyric and/or sound recording contained therein, including the title of the song, and (iii)
recording of the performance by entrant, if applicable, at the live concert, in perpetuity, for purposes of advertising
promoting and publicizing the Competition and Sponsor’s product and services, with our further compensation,
approval or notice, unless prohibited by law. This permission includes all rights necessary for Sponsor and
others whom it may authorize to reproduce, adapt, publicly perform and distribute the aforementioned musical
works and recordings in connection with the creation and dissemination of advertising and promotional materials
and sound records and/or audio visual programs concerning Sponsor and its products, the Corporation and
the live concert only. Entrants understand that recordings of the winner’s performance at the live concert may
be recorded and disseminated via the Internet and cable, broadcast and satellite television, and consent to the
same.
(d) Entrants agree that they will not assert any claim of any kind or nature, including any copyright
infringement claim, against Sponsor or the Licensees, based, in whole or in part, on participation in the Competition
and/or Sponsor’s access to and/or use of entry and/or musical work or sound recording. Entrants release,
discharge, absolve and hold harmless Sponsor and the Licensees from any and all actions, suits, claims and
demands of any kind whatsoever which they may have by reason of any matte connected in any way with this
Competition, or that otherwise arise in any way in connection with this Competition, including but not limited
to the operation of this Competition, the use by Sponsor or the Licensees of any entry or component thereof or
recorded performance at the live concert, any warranty of representations. Express or implied, relative to any
prize, the awarding of prizes, any loss or damage to any prize, and any action, claim or suit for persona; injury
and/or death or loss or damage to property in connection with the receipt and use or misuse of the prize or
performance
at the live concert.
(e) The winner will be required to perform at the live showcase concert in New York City. No taped or
video performance will be accepted in lieu of a live performance by the winner.
(f) This talent Competition is subject to all United States, Federal, State, and local laws, and is void
where prohibited by law.
(g) Contestants will be required to execute and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Publicity/Privacy
Release.
(h) Caution: Any attempt to deliberately damage any on line service or Sponsor’s website or to undermine
the legitimate operations of the sweepstakes may be a violation of the criminal and civil laws. Should such an
attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any entrant involved and to seek damages from such
entrant to the fullest extent permitted by law. Entries that have been tampered with or altered are void.
WINNERS LIST:
The names of the winners of the “Jazzmobile Vocal Competition” will be available after
July 15, 2008. For the
name of the winner, log on to the website at wwww.jazzmobile.org after July 15, 2008 or
send a stamped self-addressed envelope to Jazzmobile, 154 West 127 Street Harlem, NY 2008.
